New media tools are now often promoted as innovative ways to engage with youth and encourage kids to share their stories. While video and new technology may be used to illicit more honest responses, there is a potential cost when you consider the issues of anonymity and protecting those children whose interviews and videos cannot just be uploaded to the internet and left there available to the world. A crucial component of using new media tools to work with youth requires an acknowledgment and cautiousness regarding boundaries of anonymity.
